So it’s finally here. After months of testing and preparation we’re heading for the first race in Qatar. This week has been pretty relaxed, spending time at home and enjoying every second before I leave Adriana and Ally behind to go to Qatar.
It’s always a strange feeling heading to Doha as you need to try to put yourself on the best time zone with it being a night race. We arrive there in the evening and I try to stay awake until 1am so I can sleep in a little. The first practice is on Thursday at around 8pm and then again on Friday at 6pm and 9pm, so we don’t get out of the circuit until around 11.30pm. Then Qualifying is at 8pm on Saturday and the race not until 10pm on Sunday, so it’s really important to sleep in the mornings so we are still fresh and awake at night.
I’m not a big fan of the four day schedule in Qatar, and I don’t really understand why we race a completely different time to the practice sessions, as the track changes so much in this time. The temperature drops considerably and therefore so does the track temperature so it’s always a slightly uneasy feeling.
Anyway, it’s an exciting season opener under the floodlights and I’m certainly ready to get racing! Let’s hope we have a good race weekend and start the Championship as we mean to continue.
